Dutch Apple Pie Popcorn

Ingredients

  • 6 cups prepared popcorn

Streusel:

  • 1/3 cups brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1 1/2 cups flour

Caramel Apple Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • Optional: 1 cap-full apple extract (candy and baking flavoring - available at Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby)

        Instructions

        1. Prepare popcorn
        2. Preheat oven to 250°
        3. Mix brown sugar, butter, and sugar (1/2 cup) with a mixer
        4. Once incorporated, add flour until mixture creates small clumps
        5. Spread streusel mixture into an even layer on a baking sheet
        6. Bake for 10 minutes
        7. Over medium heat in a medium sauce pan, melt butter (1/4 cup)
        8. Add sugar and apple juice and allow to simmer for 5 minutes
        9. Add corn syrup and stir until evenly incorporated
        10. Take off heat and add apple extract
        11. Pour apple caramel mixture over popcorn; stir
        12. Spread popcorn onto a lined baking sheet and add streusel to the top
        13. Bake at 250° for 10 minutes
        14. Enjoy!
